In our Carpathian region, and in my family in particular, preparation for the holidays begins in advance. The day before we always do the cleaning in the house, around it and in our thoughts: we give up harmful and unnecessary.
After cleaning, we begin to prepare festive dishes. My mom always bakes delicious Easter bread and holiday cookies.
The Easter basket is decorated with Easter eggs. In our country, in Boykivskyi region, Easter eggs have a special ornament. Also, we have a tradition of making colorful eggs and fighting with them. Whose dyed egg breaks first – he loses.
Easter basket is collected by my mother and grandmother, they decorate it, putting in all the traditional dishes: Easter bread, sausage, cheese, butter, eggs, salt, horseradish, Easter eggs, the basket is covered with the towel embroidered by my mother. On the night before Easter, we go to church for the festive liturgy. We bring a holiday basket with us. After the church, we set the table and eat blessed dishes.

У нас на Прикарпатті, та і саме у моїй сім’ї, підготовка до свят починається заздалегідь. Напередодні ми завжди робимо прибирання в будинку, довкола нього та в своїх думках: відмовляємося від шкідливого та непотрібного.
Після прибирання ми починаємо приготування святкових страв. Моя мама завжди пече смачні святкові паски.
Прикрасою великоднього кошика є писанки. У нас, в Бойківськім краї, писанки відрізняються особливим орнаментом. Ще є традиція робити крашанки і проводити битву на крашанках. Чия крашанка трісне першою – той програє.
Великодній кошик збирає мама з бабусею, гарно оздоблюють його, вкладаючи всі традиційні страви: паску, ковбасу, сир, масло, яйця, сіль, хрін, писанки, кошик накривають вишитим мамою рушником. У ніч перед Великоднем ми йдемо до церкви на святкову літургію. Беремо з собою святковий кошик. Після церкви ми накриваємо стіл і пробуємо освячені частування.

Easter is one of the most popular and anticipated events in our region. I love this day very much. It is imbued with love, kindness and concern for others. We are celebrating with a whole family. In a few days, preparations for the holiday begin. We paint Easter eggs, bake meat, cakes and various cookies. On Saturday, we paint eggs and decorate cakes. On Sunday, everyone goes to Church and consecrates their Easter baskets. People will greet each other, exchanging Easter and Easter eggs. And such great joy reigns everywhere. We always have guests at lunch. This is a great time when all the family gather together. Time always passes quickly and imperceptibly.
Easter is a very bright and necessary holiday . We all love it and we certainly look forward to it every year
Великдень – це одне з найпопулярніших і найочікуваніших свят на Хмельниччині.Я дуже люблю цей день. Він просякнутий любов’ю, добротою і турботою про ближніх. Ми святкуємо усією родиною.За декілька днів починаються приготування до свята. Ми розписуємо писанки,випікаємо м’ясо,паски та різне печиво. В неділю всі вирушають до церкви,освячують пасхальні кошики.Люди вітають одне одного, обмінюються пасками та крашанками. І така велика радість панує скрізь. У нас завжди є гості на обід. Це прекрасний час, коли вся сім’я збирається разом. Час завжди проходить швидко і непомітно.
Великдень – це дуже світле і потрібне свято . Ми його всі любимо і неодмінно чекаємо його щороку.

I am a native of a picturesque Podillia. All my childhood I spent in a small town Khmilnyk of Vinnytsia region.
Easter has always been one of my favourite holidays. The most important symbol of Easter for my family are paska and dyed Easter eggs. When my mother bakes a fragrant paska everyone in the house keeps silence. There must be peace and harmony inside, only then paska will bake successfully. Painted Easter eggs of my region differ from others. On Podillia people used to paint eggs black. It symbolizes the fertile soils. After all preparations we go to the church. After that we taste blessed food and enjoy this holiday in a circle of relatives.
Я уроженка мальовничого Поділля. Все моє дитинство я провела в маленькому місті Хмільник, Вінницької області.
Пасха завжди була одним з моїх найулюбленіших свят. Найважливішим символом Пасхи для нашої сім’ї є паска та писанки. Коли моя мама пече запашну паску, у будинку всі повинні зберігати тишу. Має бути мир та спокій у домі, тільки тоді паска вийде вдалою.
У моєму регіоні писанки відрізняються від інших. На Поділлі люди звикли фарбувати яйця у чорний колір. Це символізує родючі ґрунти. Після всіх приготувань ми йдемо до церкви. Після цього ми смакуємо свяченою їжею та насолоджуємось святом у колі рідних.

Easter is our favorite holiday. It is symbolic feast for everyone. That’s why I would like to describe some attributes of celebration in Kolomyia district. My town is famous by the main symbol Museum “Pysanka”. The exposition of the museum includes more than 12 000 pysankas and decorative pysankas from different regions of Ukraine and countries of the world.
Великдень – це наше улюблене свято. Це символічне свято для кожного. Тому, я б хотіла описати символіку святкування у Коломийському районі. Моє місто є відоме своїм музеєм «Писанка». Експозиція Музею налічує понад 12 000 писанок і декоративних яєць із різних регіонів України та країн світу.
Easter is my favorite feast because whole family gathers together. We keep a lot of tradition that must be represented during that Day. A few days before Easter my father and grandfather fume ham, sausages, meats and my grandmothers bake pasky and babky (traditional bread).
Пасха моє улюблене свято, тому що вся сім’я збирається разом. У нас збереглося багато традицій, які повинні бути предсталені в цей День. За декілька днів до Великодня мій дідусь і тато коптять шинку, кобаску, а бабусі випікають паски і бабки.
Also day before Easter we paint krashanky. One of my aunts makes pysanky that we keep a whole year in the refrigerator, because the egg is full and raw. Only on Easter we take them from the fridge and put in the basket.
День перед Пасхою ми фарбуємо крашанки. Моя тітка робить писанки, які ми зберігаємо в холодильнику цілий рік, тому що яйце є ціле і сире. Тільки на Пасху ми дістаємо їх з холодильника і кладемо в кошик.
Don’t forget about horseradish, my granny says that it drove away evil spirits and made a person healthier. We cook pleskanka (pressed cottage cheese with egg on the top), butter with a cross in the middle made with cloves and salt.
Не забуваємо про хрін. Моя бабуся каже, що він відганяє злих духів і робить людину здоровішою. Ми готуємо плесканку (спресований домашній сир, змащений яйцем), масло з викладеним хрестом із гвоздики та сіль.
We decorate the basket with periwinkle, symbol of eternal life. On Sunday the whole family goes to the church on the Holy Liturgia. When the priest blesses the basket, we light the Stritenska candle and remove the embroidered towel from the basket.
Кошик прикрашаємо барвінком, символ вічного життя. В неділю всією сімєю йдемо до церкви на Святу Літургію. Коли священик освячує кошик, ми запалюємо Стрітенську свічку і забираємо вишитий рушник із кошика.
Then we go home and have breakfast with all consecrated products. One of the main dish is sviachene (a salad made of ham, sausage, pleskanka, krashnka, horseradish, butter and salt). For this feast we cook a lot of different dishes and bake pliatsky (cakes).
Потім ми йдемо додому куштувати всі освячені продукти. Одна з основних страв є свячене (салат із шинкою, ковбаскою, плесканкою, крашанками, хріном, маслом та сіллю). На свято ми готуємо багато страв та печемо пляцки (торти).

I am from a small town called Horodok, Lviv region. My family and I love Easter.
Напередодні Великодня у «чистий четвер», так у нас називають цей день, ми робимо генеральне прибирання у будинку та на подвір’ї. Моя мама випікає святкові пасочки, я займаюсь випічкою смачненьких «львівських пляцків», ну а моя бабуся завжди готує наш улюблений «Яворівський пиріг з гречкою та картоплею».
On the eve of Easter on Maundy Thursday we do general cleaning of the house and yard. My mom bakes festive paska, I bake delicious “Lvivski plyatski” and my grandmother always cooks our favorite Yavorivsky pie with buckwheat and potatoes.
У п’ятницю ми всією сім’єю відвідуємо храми нашого міста, у яких викладається плащаниця.
On Friday, we visit the temples of our city to pray over the Epitaphios of Christ.
У суботу, день перед Великоднем, ми збираємо кошичок і йдемо святи пасочку. Традиційний вміст пасхального кошика складається з паски, ковбаски, шинки, яйця, хріну, сиру, масла та солі. Освячення пасочок зазвичай відбувається з 13 години дня до 20-ої вечора.
On Saturday, the day before Easter, we pick up a basket and go to church to shine a paska. The traditional contents of the Easter basket consist of paska, sausage, ham, eggs, horseradish, cheese, butter and salt. Consecration of products usually takes place from 1pm until 8 pm.
А у неділю зранку ми відвідуємо Святу Літургію у нашому храмі, а після цього збираємось всією родиною за святковий стіл, щоб покуштувати освячені продукти. Біля нашої церки завжди прикрашають дерево з писанками.
And on Sunday mornings we attend the Holy Liturgy in our church, and afterwards we gather with the whole family for a festive table to taste the consecrated dishes. Near our church there is always a decorated tree with Easter eggs.

I’m from Transcarpathia and I want to tell you about our Easter traditions. One of the most special holidays in the Transcarpathia is celebration of Easter – the biggest Christian holiday. On Palm Sunday at the beginning of Easter Week, each family collects a small bunch of willow branches which are blessed by the priest during Sunday Mass. After they are hanged at home and they are believed to have healing properties.
The major symbols of Velykden are Paska and Easter Eggі. Paska, the central Velykden ritual bread, is made with yeast. Paskaі are made in quantities that should be sufficient for the family, friends and relatives and for possible guests, several days before Velykden. Figures such as a wreath, cross, flowers and birds are made for the Paska and we don’t use the white glaze on it like in other cities. The oldest and most interesting feature is the Easter egg – Christian symbol of the sun, life, immortality, rebirth, joy and happiness. The Christian tradition of Easter egg became a symbol of faith in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Each family starts their Ester Breakfast with those dishes after returning from church. But before this the host takes the basket and touches each person’s head for a blessing. And it is believed that who comes home from the Church the first will be lucky for the whole year. On Easter Sunday the church bells are heard throughout the mountains, proclaiming the Christian news of great joy.

Великдень – моє улюблене свято. Це торжество перемоги життя над смертю. Ми святкуэмо Великдень впродовж 3 днів. Підготовка до Пасхи розпочинається з четверга.
Easter is our favorite holiday because it is a celebration of the triumph of life over death. We celebrate Easter for 3 days. Preparation for Easter begins on Thursday.
В народі кажуть Чистий Четвер. У цей день ми прибираємо наші оселі та все довкола нас. Також у четвер ґаздині печуть Паску і Бабку.
People call this day Maundy Thursday. We clean our homes and clean everything around us during this day. Also, on Thursday, hazdyni bake a Paska and a Babka.
Паска – це традиційний Великодній хліб. Paska is a traditional Easter bread.
Паска схожа на колач. Paska is similar to the Kolach.
Колач – це білий обрядовий хліб особливої форми, випечений з крученого й переплетеного тіста.
Kolach is a white ritual bread of special shape, baked from twisted and twisted dough.
Моя прабабуся розказала мені про один цікавий обряд. Після замішування тіста для Паски, тісто потрібно вийняти з посудини.Потім потрібно налити води в дану посудину та вмити обличчя тією водою.Дівчата проводили цей обряд для блідолицості.

У п’ятницю ми пишемо писанки за допомогою воску. On Friday, we dye Pysanky with the wax-resist method.

Крашанки – це зварені яйця, які пофарбовані в один колір. Для фарбування традиційно використовується лушпиння цибулі Krashanky are boiled eggs dyed a single colour with onion peeling.

Here is my Easter basket that consists of homemade Paska bread, eggs covered with decorations and eggs boiled in water with onions that is why they are red, ham, sausage, horseradish, butter, cottage cheese, salt, a knife and five hryvnia. To put a knife and money into the Easter basket is like our family tradition. People say it will bring prosperity and profit next year.

Я родом з м. Шаргорода (Вінницька область). Великдень – одне із найулюбленіших та найважливіших свят у нашому місті. Ми святкуємо його кожного року за певними традиціями. Основні символи цього великого свята у нашому регіоні є галунки, запечене м’ясо, запечений сир, овочі, пасхальний вишитий рушник, свічка, фігурка ягняти, але найголовніше це самостійно спечена та прикрашена паска. Протягом трьох днів я та моя сім’я ходимо до костьолу, де здійснюється свята меса. Священник розповідає чому передпасхальне тридення є настільки важливим. Під час служби у п’ятницю читаються страсті Христові. В суботу об 22:00 моя сім’я та я йдемо до костьолу на Пасхальну Вігілію. Це є одна з найцікавіших святих мес. На початку літургії люди виходять усі на двір зі свічками. Там священник освячує вогоньі запалює пасхальну свічку (вона метр заввишки), потім від цієї свічки люди запалюють свої свічки. Священник заходить до храму, а за ним решта людей. Певні люди читають 7 читань та співають 7 псалмів. В цей період світло світиться лише в передній частині храму. Після цього вмикається світло в усьому храмі та починають бити дзвони. Хор та всі люди співають Гімн на прославлення Бога. Далі священник дає Святе Причастя, святить кошики. Далі ми обходимо кругом костьолу 3 рази. В цей час ми несемо образи, ікони, співаючи пісні. На завершення священник благословляє весь народ. Після служби ми їдемо додому і розпочинаємо святкування свята Пасхи.
Easter
I`m from Shargorod (Vinnytsia region). Easter is one of the most important holidays in our town. We celebrate it every year according to certain traditions. The main symbols of this great holiday in our region are Easter eggs, baked meat, baked cheese, vegetables, an Easter embroidered towel, a candle, a figurine of the lamb, but the most important is an Easter cake which people have to bake and decorate by their own. For three days, me and my family had been going to the church where the Holy Mass is held. The priest tells why these three days is so important. The sufferings of Christ are read on Friday. On Saturday at 22:00 my family and I go to the church for Easter Vigil. This is one of the most interesting Holy Masses. At the beginning of the Holy Liturgy, people go out to the yard with candles. The priest consecrates the fire and lights the Easter candle (This candle is 1 meter), then people light their candles from that big one. The priest enters the temple and the rest of the people follow him. Some people read 7 readings and sing 7 psalms. During this period, the light is only in front of the temple.
After that the light is switched on the whole temple and the bells start to sound. The choir and all the people sing the hymn to God. Then the priest gives Holy Communion to people and consecrates the baskets. Then we go around the church 3 times. At this time some people carry Icons and singing songs. Et the end of Mass the priest blesses all the people. At 00:00 we go home and start celebrating Easter.
